Course Title Project Management for Petroleum Industry

Objective
For coming technology leaders in the oil and/or gas producing countries, this program will provide opportunities to promote understanding of project management from the point of view of the owner side and to learn about relationship management which is unique to Japan. Furthermore, participants will discuss integrated projects between the petroleum business and other businesses such as the petrochemical business and deepen their understanding of the strategies of their company.
Main Topics
Upon completion of this course, participants will acquire better understanding of the differences between the theories and practical aspects of the Project Management Body of Knowledge® (PMBOK®). Furthermore, they will deepen their knowledge by discussing project management from various angles with same-level participants from other countries.

1. Project management activities from the viewpoint of the refinery owner side 
    (e.g., technology strategy, capital investment, renewal /replacement of 
    equipment, integrated strategies between refinery and petrochemical plants)
2. Project cost management
3. Practical exercise & Group discussion 
   ・Problems in project management based on your experience, and 
      countermeasures
   ・The challenge of planning projects for a high-value-added petroleum industry
4. Visits to: 
   ・A refinery and chemical plants ‒ to know the actual integration projects between petroleum business and 
      petrochemical business in Japan
   ・An engineering company (1) ‒ to gain knowledge of time management and HSE 
      evaluation in an EPC project
   ・An engineering company (2) ‒ to study EPC project engineering by utilizing IT 
        (procurement management)
   ・A manufacturer of high pressure vessel ‒ to understand recent technologies for 
      manufacturing of high pressure vessel and non-destructive inspection technologies
   ・A manufacturer of boiler and turbine ‒ to learn about recent turbine and boiler 
       technologies 
   ・A pipe manufacturer ‒ to learn about recent technologies for pipeline materials 
       and an actual pipeline laying project.

Qualification
1. University degree or an equivalent qualification
2. Minimum five years’ experience related to construction, maintenance or planning 
    in the petroleum industry
3. Middle management level engineers
