Objectives
The aim of this course is to improve their skills in technical requirements that affect reliability, design concepts, and manufacturing processes for rotating machines, and abnormality diagnosis and evaluation techniques, in order to improve the reliability of rotating machines.
Main Topics
1. Lecture: ・Overview of Japanese petroleum industry ・Theory and Applications of Vibration analysis ・Trouble examples and Workshop of Rotary machinery 2. Site Visit: ・Mechanical seal manufacturer (Reliability factors of pump seals and couplings) ・Pump manufacturer (Selection criteria and maintenance practice of pumps, High pressure water pump for boiler) ・Heavy industry company (Features and production of compressors, Recent hydrogen centrifugal compressor ) ・Steam turbine and process pump manufacturer (Technical requirements for process pumps and steam turbines) ・Condition monitoring specialist company (Principles and configuration of condition monitoring equipment, Demonstration of condition monitoring) ・Bearing manufacturer (Bearing selection criteria and maintenance methods) ・Maintenance service contractor (Maintenance practices for rotating equipment, Training systems for Maintenance staffs) ・Core organization for petroleum-related R&D (Safety information platform using AI analysis technology, Initiatives towards carbon neutrality) 3. Workshop: (Group discussion for examples of problems or improvements of rotary machinery, Lessons learnt through this course and discussion actions to be taken.)

Qualification
An engineer who has graduated from an engineering university (preferably in the field of mechanical engineering) and has at least five years of practical experience in specification selection, operation management, maintenance, etc. of rotating equipment at petroleum-related plants (refineries, petrochemical plants, etc.). Also, those who are able to conduct daily conversations and presentations in English.
Project Report
This course is aimed at engineers involved in the selection, operation management, and maintenance of rotating machinery in petroleum-related plants. It teaches abnormality diagnosis and evaluation techniques, as well as effective maintenance methods, and enhances the knowledge and skills necessary to improve the reliability of rotating machinery.
